CONFLICT COUNSELLING

Most conflicts arise within families or at work. I focus on conflicts that occur in the workplace.

Conflicts in the workplace arise for various reasons due to :

  1.  unequal treatment
  2. communication breakdowns
  3. performance pressure,
  4. or because certain colleagues are frequently absent, and others (usually the same ones) have to pick up the slack.

    Conflicts occur between:
  • Employees on the same level
  • Manager and employee
  • Team and manager
  • Departments
  • Levels and individuals not directly assigned to each other.

CEOs, executives, and managers want to know how they affect their teams and how they could lead better if they encounter resistance. This is where I come in. We analyze the conflict and work on solutions that all parties can live with.

Many leaders are appointed without being taught how humane, successful, and individual leadership works. Many leaders feel overwhelmed by demanding, underperforming, or rebellious employees and want to improve their leadership skills and assertiveness. One key aspect of good leadership is certainly recognizing conflicts as early as possible so that emerging conflicts can be resolved before they fester or even erupt, leading to entire departments fighting or staying home. I can help you improve your leadership skills and resolve conflicts. A manager who says yes to everything and sets no boundaries may be a nice buddy but probably won't be respected.

His employees might take advantage of him, and that's not conducive to effective leadership. I can also assist you in setting boundaries without having your employees immediately resign. Furthermore, I help identify, alleviate, and rectify psychological abuse in the workplace. This happens when employees are insulted, berated, yelled at, threatened, excluded, discriminated against, bullied, or treated rudely. Many victims carry emotional scars that heal slower than physical wounds. As we've learned, this can be costly for a company if the affected parties seek compensation!

Do any of the following statements resonate with your situation at your workplace?

  • I hate my boss.
  • My team is driving me insane.
  • The work isn't getting done. Everyone seems to be falling behind for some reason.
  • I'm relieved when I see my boss and colleagues as little as possible.
  • If I didn't need the money, I'd quit right away.
  • The enemy is everywhere.
  • My boss shamelessly abuses his/her position of power – I'd love to teach him/her a lesson for their incompetence and deceit.
  • I call in sick, or there will be an accident!
  • I feel unfairly treated. Who can help me?
  • I'm at my wit's end. Why is everyone against me?
  • If only I knew what to do – unfortunately, I don't know my rights!
  • My team can't work because of all the complaints and quarrels, and they're also keeping me from working.
  • My team is bullying, and they should work instead of chatting privately.
  • Who can I confide in? They will probably see it as a sign of weakness, and the rumor mill will distort everything.

Or do you recognize yourself in one of the following cases?

Mr. Strict is a top manager at a DAX company. He suffers from the "managerial disease": no one tells him the truth to his face out of fear of consequences or respect for his authority. He wishes for someone to finally speak frankly with him. Is he too strict or too authoritarian with his people? Does he come across as arrogant? Is he liked? Or why does everyone run away as soon as he comes into view?

Team leader Mr. Müller is not recognized by his team, and he can't explain why. His employees walk all over him, are often sick, especially on Mondays and Fridays, and like to call in sick during their holidays. As a result, his team's work often falls on him because he has to achieve the team's goals with his team. This leads to many overtime hours and a bad mood. Mr. Müller wishes for help and a neutral contact person who can help him resolve this conflict and empathize with his situation. Above all, he wants quick help because otherwise, he'll collapse from anger and overload.

CEO Mr. Pieper feels uncomfortable in his role. His team doesn't seem to support him, and he senses negative vibes. He would like to know what his employees think of him. There is hardly any communication between him and his team. His team prefers to send emails instead of speaking to him in person or on the phone. Mr. Pieper wishes for a relaxed and professional relationship with his team. The situation burdens him so much that he has developed sleep problems. His wife Susanne suffers along because he tells her about his problems every day. Unfortunately, she can't help him and is considering a separation.

Omar has been working for an international company in the IT department as a software developer for several weeks. He comes from Morocco, left his home for this job, and is homosexual. His colleagues and especially his female boss make fun of him because he doesn't yet speak German perfectly. He is constantly corrected and lectured. Then comments like, "If you want to work here, you have to learn German better," are made, or gay jokes are told in his presence. His boss likes to pressure him by saying, "You're in your probationary period, now show what you can do. You have no right to take leave during the probationary period; you should have taken care of that beforehand." His boss often torments him by setting extremely tight deadlines that he cannot possibly meet, and she calls every hour to ask about his progress, disrupting his work.

In this situation, Omar wishes for support from a knowledgeable HR coach. Since he is still in his probationary period, he doesn't want to bother anyone in the company, especially since his German is not that good, and he is constantly teased because of it. Have you heard of such cases, experienced them yourself, or observed them? Congratulations and welcome to the world of HR conflicts.

I can promise you that you are not alone! If no one takes action against conflicts, it can lead to war-like conditions in companies. In all of these cases, I can help. It is a pleasure for me to make people happier. Sometimes, there is simply a communication problem or a misunderstanding that can be relatively easily resolved. In any case, there are one or more causes for every conflict that need to be investigated. In more complex cases, a deeper dive is required. But that's exactly why you engage me with my professional expertise and years of experience.
